Duck Creek Dolomite - 2.228" Stromatolite Formation

With its striking orange coloring and limestone-like properties, Duck Creek Dolomite is both a beautiful formation and a curious geological phenomenon. Abundant in ancient deposits but rarer in newer formations, Dolomite continues to puzzle geologists.

This specimen is a 2.228" piece of Dolomite from Duck Creek, a part of Western Australia's Ashburton Basin, dating to 1.8 billion years ago. It shows evidence of a stromatolite fossil, a prehistoric marker of the early-life bacteria Pilbaria perplexa.
